FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – An officer-involved shooting leaves one injured in Fayette County.
Sheriff Mike Fridley says, at about 7:30 PM Sunday evening, notification was received of a serious domestic incident occurring in the Cannelton area of Fayette County. Investigation indicates that a male suspect had held a female against her will at gunpoint for a period of time. The female was able to escape to a neighbor’s house for help. The male then walked to the neighbor’s house armed with a handgun. The male jumped through a plate glass window after not being allowed entry. Due to a malfunction with his handgun, the male walked back home to retrieve another firearm.
At this point, the first officer (Smithers Police Department) arrived on the scene. The officer confronted the suspect. The officer discharged his firearm, striking the suspect in his extremities, which are not believed to be life-threatening.
