UPDATE: RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – Markel Stokes II has been arrested in Detroit, Michigan by the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force.
He is awaiting extradition to West Virginia to answer charges of Felony Murder and Felony Conspiracy in the April 26,2020 overdose death of Derrick Counts
RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – Deputies in Raleigh County need your help locating a man who is wanted for selling laced drugs.
On 04/27/2020, the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle collision on North Sand Branch Road, Bradley, Raleigh County, West Virginia.
The driver of the vehicle was Derrick Robert Counts of White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Counts did not have any injuries consistent with death due to a motor vehicle collision.
Further investigation led deputies to a residence in Bradley where Counts had obtained a quantity of narcotics before the collision occurred. Evidence in support of this was obtained during the course of the investigation. The West Virginia State Medical Examiner ruled Counts death due to Fentanyl Intoxication.
Matthew Allen Hunt of Beckley was identified as the facilitator of Counts obtaining the narcotics he ultimately ingested and died from. Hunt was supplied the drugs by Markel Rachi Stokes II of Romulus, Michigan.
On 6/11/2020, Matthew Hunt was arrested and charged with Felony Murder by Poisoning and Conspiracy to Commit a Felony. Warrants for the arrest of Markel Stokes II have been issued for Felony Murder by Poisoning and Conspiracy to Commit a Felony. Stokes is entered into the National Crime Information Center as a wanted person.
