UPDATE: (March 10, 2020, at 2:00 pm) BEAVER, WV (WOAY) – One of five inmates have been sentenced in connection to a murder of another inmate that took place in the Southern Regional Jail.

Dallas Lauschin pled guilty in front of Judge Kirkpatrick to the murder of Kevin Whittaker and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Lauschin along with four others were charged with first-degree murder after Kevin Whittaker was found unresponsive in his cell back in February 2019

According to Lauschin’s attorney, Lauschin did not, in fact, commit the murder. He was only the lookout when the crime was taking place.

“I think justice was served. That a just outcome happened here and that we’re prepared to go forward and give the victim in this matter, Kevin Whittaker, the outcome him and his family deserve,” says Joshua Thompson, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney.

At the end of the day, this is for all young people to understand, your participation in a crime could result in a capital crime, result in someone’s death, and you spending an appreciable amount of time in jail,” says Attorney Robert Dunlap.
