Update: Man arrested on new sexual abuse charges in Mercer County

UPDATE: MERCER COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – A man arrested earlier this week for alleged sexual abuse has been arraigned on new charges after another child came forward.

As a result of an investigation conducted by Detective-Sergeant Steven A. Sommers, Earl Newton Dodd, III, (35 years of age) of Princeton, West Virginia was arrested on November 7, 2019 for one count of Sexual Abuse 1st degree and one count of Sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, custodian of a child.  His initial bond on these charges was set at a $25,000 cash-only bond.

Upon further investigation in cooperation with Child Protect of Mercer County and consultation with the Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney, George V. Sitler, additional warrants have been obtained for the suspect which include counts for Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, Sexual Assault in the first degree for a child under the age of 12, Sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, custodian and Incest.  The additional counts are for one additional victim.

Earl Newton Dodd was arraigned on the new charges and a $50,000 cash-only bond was set.  The Defendant remains incarcerated at Southern Regional Jail.  All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

MERCER COUNTY, WV (WOAY)- A man has been arrested after touching a seven-year-old girl inappropriately on multiple occasions.

According to a criminal complaint, the seven-year-old victim told investigators that 35-year-old Earl Dodd made them sleep in the same bed together and would touch her inappropriately. The victim also stated this happened every time she was at Dodd’s home and told her to not tell her mother.

Earl Dodd has been charged with sexual abuse by a guardian/person of trust.
