FIRST ON WOAY: Shaela McCoy Abren’s husband talks to WOAY about her murder

GREENBRIER CO., WV (WOAY)– “She was a strong willed stubborn caring would give you the shirt off her back and last dollar in her pocket type person.”

That is how Shaela McCoy Abren husband Joshua Abren describes her, Shaela a mother of five body was tragically found on January 18th.

Joshua says that he had just spoken to her 24 hours before being notified of her death.

Two days later the Greenbrier County Sheriffs Department found yet another body, which was 24-year-old Chasity Hamm.

Greenbrier County Sheriff Bruce Sloan adds, “Shaela McCoy Abren was found on a creek road behind an uninhabited house near Blue Bend, Chastity Hamm was found in Monongalia.”

In December 2017, McCoy was wanted for questioning after Raleigh County Sheriffs believed she was with a male subject who shot at another male subject. The incident took place at the Go-Mart on Harper Road. After the incident no new information came forth until recently.

The Greenbrier Sheriffs Department issued a press release stating they have identified the suspect in Shaela’s death as well as the December Go-Mart shooting. That man has been identified as Thomas Dunbar.

“Relatively early in the investigation his name was developed as a possible suspect and as the evening hours turned into early morning hours the investigation focused more on him,” Sloan adds.

Sloan says that, there is a connection between Abren and Dunbar, but can’t confirm a connection with  Dunbar and Hamm.

Dunbar was arrested on January 20th on unrelated charges by the Charleston Police Department.  Currently he is in South Central Regional Jail.
