UPDATE: Crews cleaning up after train derails in Fayette County

UPDATE: Crews are cleaning up of a train derailed 12 cars carrying coal.

The derailment happened around 3:15 am Sunday morning and involved 12 cars carrying coal.

They are already involved in clean-up.

Nothing went into the river but did go into Marrs branch.

The public should be advised that there may be traffic coming in on the south side of the road today so use caution on one-way sections.


FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WOAY)- A CSX train derailed early this morning near the New River Gorge.

Dispatchers tell us the incident occurred on September 9th,2018 at 5:13 a.m. at Fayette Station.

Details are limited at this time and it’s unknown whether anyone sustained any injuries.

Park Service Rangers are currently investigating the accident.
