UPDATE: Another arrest made in case involving exploitation of elderly person

UPDATE: (Monday, June 8, 2020, at 8:40 am) FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – A Co-Defendant in the case involving theft of money from a disabled family member has been arrested.

Robert Woodrum of Fayetteville is charged with Conspiracy to Commit a Felony. He will now await court proceedings.

FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – A Fayette County woman is in jail following charges she allegedly exploited an elderly relative.

According to a criminal complaint, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department was first notified in April about suspicions that an individual assisting a protected person had been exploiting the protected person financially. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that two individuals of interest were reportedly using the money for themselves. The primary suspect was reportedly unable to provide the protected person with adequate living conditions, including running water and power.

Iris Woodrum is charged with financial exploitation of an elderly person, abuse or neglect of an incapacitated adult, and conspiracy. She is in Southern Regional Jail on a $50,000 bail.
