UPDATE: A Six Year Old Boy Who Fell Into A Creek Has Passed Away

UPDATE: (5/23/18 @ 9am) – We have sad news to report this morning. Liam Craft passed away last night.

“I want to thank everyone for everything throughout these last few days. Tonight Nathan and I held our baby boy in our arms as he went to heaven. He fought hard and for a long time. He’s now at peace.

Love to you all.” From Malary Craft, Liam’s mother.

UPDATE (5/22/18 @9:30 PM) An update from Malary Craft, Liam Craft’s mother:

My Liam has heart damage. His blood pressure is slowly dropping. If he would happen to code tonight they’re not sure they can bring him back. Please pray like you’ve never before.

I know everyone has been on pins and needles waiting for an update today. I wish I could say that I had news, but I really just don’t. The goal today was to bring him completely off the propofol (the medicine preventing seizure activity in the brain). He started on a 22 and he is now on 7. If all goes well within the next hour, they are planning to wean him off completely. Good news is there hasn’t been seizure activity during this process today.

His cranial swelling is currently at a 22. If you’ll remember I said the doctor would like it to be below 20. Right now we are getting to the 72 hour mark where we should start seeing the swelling go down. Once that happens we MIGHT have more answers.

There’s not much to see about his eeg. He is so heavily medicated that we are not seeing much. It’s not flat by any means, but we aren’t seeing much which is to be expected.

My Liam is still in really bad shape. The doctors are controlling the majority of things such as blood pressure, body temp, glucose, etc. You have to keep in mind that your brain controls all that, and his cannot do that right now. So they are doing it for him. I’m convinced we have some of the best doctors and nurses in the country. We can’t thank God enough for them.

Again, all of you are amazing! So many of you have reached out with your personal stories and so many words of comfort and kindness. It’s so humbling, and we will forever be indebted to all of you! That being said, my baby boy still needs your prayers. All we ask is that you please ask God to heal my baby.

I almost forgot. A lot of you have asked us what we need. I know there are fundraisers set up everywhere. Even though our minds haven’t been thinking about finances, you guys have and we cannot thank you enough! Friends of ours have set up an account at First Citizens Bank in WSS in Liams name, and has asked us to relay this to you all. My mother is the executor over the account and will make sure the money goes where you want it to go.

Again, all we are asking for from you is prayers. Sending love to you all

-Malary & Nathan

UPDATE (5/21/18 @ 5pm) The latest on Liam Craft from his mother Malary Craft:

“Nathan and I spoke with Liam’s doctor about an hour ago. Basically we are still playing a torturous waiting game. With an injury like this, swelling on the brain will peak and then start to go down within 48-72 hours. That being said, his cranial swelling number went up extremely high this morning to a 30. We were told it could be due to all the medicines that are being pumped into his little body. Guys just to give you an idea of severity, my Liam has about seven different machines keeping him alive right now. That being said, everything below the neck they are able to deal with. The main concern is his little brain. All we can really do right now is pray for him and his brain to be healed. We are halfway to that 72 hour mark. So the next several hours are critical and we need prayers so so badly. His seizures have not stopped. That being said, our neurologist can’t get an EEG reading. Please don’t give up praying guys. We need y’all now more than ever!!! I’m sorry I don’t have any more info right now. We are still in a minute by minute desperate waiting period. Love to each of you; every single one of you are amazing!!!! ❤”

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV (WOAY) – A little boy is fighting for his life after he fell into a creek Saturday evening.  His older brother jumped in to saved him and both were caught in a current and swept away.

Liam Craft, 6 years old and Gavin Craft, 10 years old, were taking to CAMC Women and Children’s in Charleston.  Gavin was released early Sunday morning but Liam is still fighting for his life on a ventilator.

Liam had a hole drilled and a port put in for the swelling in his brain. The neurologist wants the swelling to remain under 20 and right now we are fluctuating between 11-15 depending on his body temp (which they were trying to regulate as well). He has seizures all night last night and did not get them stopped until this morning. They had to give him large amounts of meds to do that. They are now weaning them off those meds slowly and he hasn’t not had another seizure during this process. He is hooked up to an EEG but results will not be ready until Monday morning.

Liam’s mother is asking for everyone to please pray for her little boy and for their family during this difficult time.

WOAY will continue to update you on this story.
