For those in need… United Way of Southern West Virginia demonstrates time and again how they can help — across Fayette, Raleigh and six other counties in the region.
It’s that time of year again… UWSWV has kicked off its 2023-2024 annual campaign with the Cornett family (Todd and Rachel) serving as chairs. Their goal for this season: $850,000.
“That stays in this community, where the money is raised and supports our partner agencies… who meet our mission of improved health, education and financial stability,” said executive director Trena Dacal. “That includes senior centers, food and baby needs pantries, recovery programs, childhood enrichment programs and many others.”
According to Trena, one in four people in Southern West Virginia has been touched by a United Way program.
“That may be someone who’s had to visit a baby needs pantry to bridge the gap between paychecks or who is a recipient of a scholarship to a recovery program, perhaps a child who has gone to a 4-H camp,” she said.
The executive director says it’s wildly important to be able to reach the community and educate them about what United Way is doing.
“To make the connections between our donors and our partners and just to really launch it off on a positive note to help us meet that goal,” said Dacal.
As a native Southern West Virginian who loves where she lives and this community, being a part of the campaign and giving back means so much to Trena.
“Our agencies who are doing the boots-on-the-ground vital work in the community, help them enhance their programming and support them is indescribable; it’s everything,” she said.
