WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV (WOAY) – A familiar name is back at the top of the West Virginia Amateur leaderboard, as 13-time champion Pat Carter is tied for the lead at -3 through 54 holes.
The Huntington resident, who began the day four strokes behind 36-hole leader Noah Mullens, posted a third-round 68 Thursday on the Greenbrier’s Meadows course, including eight total birdies. He’s joined at the top of the leaderboard by Ravenswood’s Alex Easthom, who shot an even 70 Thursday.
Carter and Easthom will be joined in the final group Friday by Daniels native Jackson Hill, who shot 67 on the Meadows course to move to solo third at -2. Hill put together four straight birdies on the front nine, and overcame a double-bogey on #14 with a birdie on #17. Only Chris Williams had a lower round Thursday, with 66.
It will be the second time in three years an area golfer played in the final group of the WV Amateur final round; Nick Dent of White Sulphur Springs played in the last group in 2018 with Carter and eventual champion Sam O’Dell. Carter, Easthom, and Hill tee off at 11:15 AM Friday on the Old White TPC.
