Beckley, WV (WOAY) – Two people died in an early morning structure fire.
According to a media release from the Beckley Fire Department, crews responded to a house fire in the 800 block of South Oakwood Avenue in Beckley around 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
Once fire crews arrived on scene, they were informed by neighbors that victims could still possibly be inside. Firefighters made entry to the home and after a search, located and removed two victims.
Both victims were transported to separate hospitals in the city of Beckley by ambulance. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, both victims later died.
“Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims during this incredibly difficult
time,” said Beckley Fire Department Chief Ed Thompson. “We also extend our gratitude to the
firefighters and EMS providers who responded swiftly and with dedication under very
challenging conditions.”
The cause of the fire was initially investigated by the Beckley Fire Department Fire Marshal. Due to the fire resulting in a fatality, the investigation has now been turned over to the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office, where it remains ongoing.
No further information is being released at this time as the investigation continues.
