Two Arrested For A String Of Burglaries In Beckley

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – Over the past two-weeks, the Beckley Police Department observed a spike in residential burglaries occurring randomly throughout the City of Beckley covering a wide geographical area.

Several residents had reported seeing a red passenger car in the area of the burglaries at the time of these incidents. Items targeted were jewelry, electronics, prescription medication and designer handbags. The burglaries primarily occurred during the daytime and targeted residences with no vehicles in the driveway, and no interior/exterior lights on. Most of the residences were entered through a rear window or door.

On October 29, 2018 Cpl. Naomi Cook responded to a burglary in progress on Lincoln Street. Upon arrival, Cpl. Cook observed a male subject coming out of the residence and once he spotted her, he ran back inside. Cpl. Cook pursued the suspect and was able to take him into custody. The subject, Zachary Frankum was found to have stolen property in his possession. Detective Cpl. Joseph Stewart spotted a red passenger car in the area that was being driven by a second subject, Kenyamu Richardson. The vehicle was subsequently stopped and a search warrant was obtained for the vehicle.

The investigation into this incident has resulted in the recovery of several thousand dollars’ worth of stolen property. The investigation and evidence recovered has tied these two individuals to approximately (12) twelve burglaries in the City of Beckley and throughout Raleigh County. The investigation was led by Detective Sgt. Morgan Bragg and he was assisted by Detective Sgt. William Pannell and Detective Cpl. Joseph Stewart. Beckley Police Department Crime Scene Members, Cpl. Justin Hudnall and Cpl. Shawn Carpenter processed the vehicle and collected evidence.

Frankum was arraigned by Magistrate Tanner and his bond was set at $30,000.00. Richardson was arraigned by Magistrate Tomi Peck and his bond was set at $100,000.00. Frankum and Richardson are both currently incarcerated at the Southern Regional Jail awaiting additional court proceedings. Additional charges are pending.
