Turnpike travel expected to approach 350,000 transactions for Memorial Day weekend

West Virginia (WOAY) Officials with the West Virginia Turnpike are preparing for heavier holiday traffic this Memorial Day weekend.

Turnpike officials expect to see nearly 349,000 transactions along the Turnpike’s 88 miles during the four-day travel period.

Friday is expected to be the busiest day, with an estimated 146,000 transactions.

Memorial Day Monday is projected to see about 108,000 transactions, while roughly 101,000 are expected on Saturday and 84,000 on Sunday.

To prepare for increased traffic, officials say additional staff will be stationed at toll booths throughout the holiday weekend.

Drivers are encouraged to plan, allow extra travel time, and use caution while traveling.
