UPDATE: A Raleigh County man accused of sexually abusing a child for four years appeared in court on Wednesday via video conference from Southern Regional Jail.
At the status hearing, a pre-trial and trial date was set for Richard Chambers on multiple counts of sexual abuse of a minor.
The trial date is November 30 and the pre-trial date is October 26.
“So we’ve filed our pre-trial motions which we file in almost every felony case,” Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney Kristen Keller said. “They’ll be argued on that date, and then there’s some additional material that the defense is wanting that we’re obtaining from the State Police and then the trial date is November 30th.”
The pre-trial date will be October 26 at 10:00 a.m.
GHENT, WV (WOAY) – A Raleigh County man is in jail after sexually abusing a seven-year-old child.
According to court documents, On December 1, 2018, State Police received a complaint of possible child sex abuse. During a forensic interview, it was stated that Richard Lee Chambers, Jr. had on more than one occasion had inappropriate contact with the child and has done so since the child was three years old. Chambers at one point held a gun at the child while performing sexual acts. The child wanted to call 911 but didn’t because of being scared of the number of guns in Chambers’ possession.
The child told police that Chambers took the child’s sibling, 3-years-old, into his bedroom and locked the door, which crying could be heard.
Chambers is charged with sexual abuse by parent, guardian, custodian or person in a position. He is being held in the Southern Regional Jail under a $100,000 bond.
