Travelers Evacuating North Carolina Due To Florence And Construction Has I-77 Traffic Backed Up For Miles, Detour Now In Place

MERCER COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – Traffic is backed up for miles due to the influx of traffic from people evacuating North Carolina and construction.

Turnpike Police tell WOAY that on I-77 at mm 29  is where a bridge is being worked on and has traffic down to one lane.  The lane cannot be reopened due to safety issues.

A mandatory detour has been set up for people to take Exit 9 in Princeton to Route 460, then to 219 to Lewisburg, where you would then get on I-64.

Construction workers are trying to figure out if they will be able to open the lane back open tomorrow that they are working on but there is no guarantee.
