WYOMING COUNTY, WV (WOAY)- Tragedy struck one family in Wyoming County this weekend when they received news that no family ever wants to hear.
Dennis Lane was pronounced dead Saturday evening after a week long search and deputies found his crashed car near Sun Hill.
“Dennis and his family member hit a cliff, they stated that they were fine but the vehicle wouldn’t run,” said Chief Deputy Jimmy White Of Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department.
A runner did find the body by the river while running this weekend and called 911.
Chief White also told WOAY that Lane was allegedly on meth at the time and believes that he may abandoned the car to avoid interaction with law enforcement and may have succumbed to the frigid temperatures.
“They thought we were chasing them that night, it wasn’t us, like I said, meth makes you extremely paranoid and apparently they saw headlights and thought it was after them,“ said Chief White.
Lane’s body was sent to Charleston for an autopsy and the investigation is still ongoing by Wyoming County Deputies.
“We did put in a good effort on this, they had just waited so long and then it snowed, it was nearly impossible,” said Chief White.
