Tragedy At A Local Coal Mine

FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WOAY)- Tragedy struck early Friday morning at Revelation Energy, LLC mine located in Fayette County when a worker was killed.

Authorities and the company would not let WOAY go to the actual mine. The victim has been identified as 34 year old Thurman A Watts.

Watts died when a bulldozer he was operating traveled over the high wall and malfunctioned according to the Office of Miners Health, Safety and Training. This is the eighth fatal accident in West Virginia this year.

The Governor of West Virginia, Jim Justice, released a statement Friday morning saying, “Cathy and I are deeply saddened today after learning of the death of one of our coal miners in Fayette County. Please join us in praying for the family, friends and co-workers of Thurman A. Watts and all of our hard working and dedicated coal miners in West Virginia.”

Other government officials have also shared their thoughts and prayers for the family members during this tragic time. The investigation is still ongoing by the West Virginia Office of Miners Health, Safety and Training.
