Three people killed in Braxton County blaze identified

BRAXTON COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) — Family members have identified the three people who were killed in a blaze in Braxton County and the two people who were injured.

Cathy Veasey, 57, died in the blaze along with her sons, Charles Veasey, 27, and Thomas Veasey, 26, that was reported about 7:30 a.m. Thursday in the 2700 block of Elk River Road between Frametown and Gassaway in the Rock Camp area.

Meanwhile, James Veasey, Cathy Veasey’s husband, is hospitalized in the West Penn Burn Center in Pittsburgh. He was intubated Thursday, but has been moved down to a step-down unit, family members said. Thomas Veasey’s girlfriend, Tina Dillon, also is being treated at the West Penn Burn Center.

Fire marshals said there were no working smoke alarms in the residence, but a cause has not been determined.

Frigid temperatures and extreme heat from the fire made it difficult for crews to fight the fire.

A GoFundMe account has been set up for the family.
