Third Reconstruction demonstrators gather in downtown Beckley

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – The West Virginia Poor People’s Campaign held a demonstration outside Congresswoman Carol Miller’s office.

The Poor People’s Campaign says they focus on combating five main issues, systematic racism, poverty, ecological devastation, militarism and the war economy.

They were demonstrating for the Third Reconstruction: A movement to address the growing issue of poverty.

They say more than 140 million people in the United States are struggling financially, and are just one disaster away from financial ruin.

According to the Poor People’s Campaign Tri-Chair Jean Evansmore, the campaign demonstrated outside Carol Miller’s office in downtown Beckley to make their voices heard.

“We are here to demand that our West Virginia representatives support this, Evansmore said. “This is supporting West Virginia.”
