OAK HILL, WV (WOAY)- On Tuesday night, the Oak Hill Fire Department was conducting routine training with foam when it got into the creek behind the station.
Local residents noticed that several minnows in the creek were dead and contacted the city hall.
After city hall became aware of the situation, the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection was called in. They’re currently testing water samples.
Oak Hill city manager had then contacted Pennslyvania company Specialized Professional Services Incorporated to clean up the creek. There are live fish downstream, so it’s believed to no longer be harmful to the water supply.
Oak Hill’s city manager says they don’t take things like this lightly and are working to prevent it from happening again.
“We do not take things like this lightly,” explained Damita Johnson, Oak Hill City Manager. “We were immediately on the site and trying to take care of it. We contacted the proper authorities. Everyone has been very helpful, and we’re trying to make sure that this doesn’t happen again.”
