Ten-year-old Kyra putting smiles on faces in her community

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY)- Kyra Mitchell is quite the little entrepreneur, she’s taking ordinary rocks, decorating them and then selling these hand-crafted stones for a dollar each.

She’s hoping to make a difference in her small community of Oak Hill by giving away the money she makes to those a little less fortunate.

“I’m selling rocks for kids, for the less fortunate and all the money that I make are going to children who can’t afford items,” said ten year old Kyra Mitchell

Kyra has been selling rocks during the summer and the community is only continuing to pour in for support.

Kyra makes sure each rock has an inspirational message… words to share that mean something to creative little girl.

In fact, her enthusiasm and special pieces of art caught the eye of West Virginia State Police Corporal Timothy Holster, who took time out of his day this week to buy one of her gems.

“It wasn’t what I expected, there were crosses, rocks with love, and most importantly her cuteness,” said Corporal Timothy Holster with the West Virginia State Police.

Holster got a picture with Kyra that he posted on Facebook, and it’s gone viral in just a matter of hours.

“I never expected it to blow up this much,” said Corporal Holster.

Kyra’s father shared how proud he is of his daughter for having the courage to stand out in the heat, day after day, raising money to help others.

“It makes me feel very special she’s helping everybody, she’s helping the community,” said Sterling Mitchell who is Kyra’s father.

One ten year old  can make a difference… one rock at a time, putting smiles on faces with a simple act of kindness.
