Teenager loses control of car in Greenbrier Co., killing another driver


GREENBRIER CO., WV (NEWS RELEASE) – On Monday August 14, 2017, at approximately 4:10 pm, members of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two vehicle accident that occurred on US Route 219 approximately ½ mile south of the Pocahontas and Greenbrier County line.

The investigation revealed that Carlton Reed Black, age 19 of Covington, Virginia was southbound when he lost control of his vehicle on the wet pavement in a turn and went left of center into the northbound lane.

His vehicle then struck a northbound vehicle being operated by Abigail Hannah, age 34 of Marlinton, head on.

Ms. Hannah died at the scene.

Mr. Black did not appear to suffer any visible injuries and was not medically transported.

Sergeant R. B. Baker, of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office, is the investigating officer and received assistance from the State Police Marlinton detachment.
