Pocahontas, VA– A Tazewell County man has quite the story to tell after being attacked by a black bear Thursday.
Tony Yopp of Pocahontas, Virginia was returning to his home from his parents at around 12:25 am Wednesday night when he was attacked. Yopp tells The Bluefield Daily Telegraph that he was walking up the steps to his back porch when he saw the bear standing on the porch. He said the bear picked him up under his armpits, showed him its teeth then threw him down and ran away. Yopp was taken to Bluefield Regional Medical Center where he received four stitches. Four claw marks extending from his left shoulder to his collarbone are visible
Game wardens estimate the bear to have been about 250 pounds.
