Storms and Showers Continue; Breaks in the Weather

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): With the rain and storms continuing through the day, water concerns and some stronger storms will be present today. Above is the outlook for today, with flooding/ponding of water as the main issue with high winds and small hail possible in isolated strong storms. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has your full forecast:

Storms will be isolated through the day of showers, with localized areas of heavier rain and stronger storms similar to yesterday. Some storms may reach severe potential as parameters line up later in the day. The storms will dissipate through the night and showers will pop in and out overnight into Wednesday. More showers and storms will develop on Wednesday, though they will be weaker than today’s onslaught. Overall, most of the rain will be beneficial, though low-end flooding risks do exist across the region today.

Flash Flooding Guidance gives us insight on how much rain is needed within a timeframe to cause flooding. Simply put, this figure shows the amount of rain needed within a 3 hour period to induce flash flooding in that region. Most of the area would need around an inch and a half of rain within 3 hours. Some spots in our southern counties in yellow and red will need less than that to cause flooding, while some blues indicate more rain needed for flooding to occur. Below is the latest flash flood guidance as of 7:30 AM:

Thursday will see a drier day with a lower chance of scattered showers, which will end up being the best day of the work week. Partly sunny skies will give some time for rain to dry up, but could also help incoming storms intensify as the heat creates instability in the atmosphere. Marginal severe weather risks are in play for both Thursday and Friday, though will be in isolated storms. The main concern will be wind as of now. We will keep an eye on the upcoming days as more or less sunshine can change how storms develop and intensify.

The weekend will see showers and storms dissipating as the second disturbance of the week blows through Friday and Saturday. Storms will likely be less intense on Saturday before we finally see another drier day on Sunday. There is the chance of a pop-up shower or two to end the weekend and start the work week on Monday. However, the chances are low and any showers would be light. Here’s your 7-Day Forecast:
