OAK HILL, WV (NEWS RELEASE) — A vehicle was stolen in Oak Hill during the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 19, 2017. Patrolman First class J.A. Jones was investigating this incident.
At approximately 10:00 pm on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 Deputies received a tip that the vehicle stolen from Oak Hill earlier that morning had been seen in the area of Beards Fork off of WV Route 61. Corporal N.D. Hall and Deputies A.B. Hudson of the Sheriff’s Office, assisted by Captain Robert Keglor of the Smithers Police Department, responded to the Beards Fork area to investigate. After confirming that this was the vehicle stolen from Oak Hill earlier that morning, Deputies called for the assistance of a Bloodhound.
Sergeant J.R. McMullen and his K-9 partner. Pappy responded to the scene. Pappy was able to pick up a scent from the driver’s seat of the vehicle and led Deputies to a house located approximately one mile from where the stolen vehicle had been abandoned. After speaking with neighbors in the area, Deputies were able to confirm that the stolen vehicle had been seen at this residence earlier in the day and were able to positively identify a suspect in connection with this theft.
Deputies spoke with the suspect after locating him in the Oak Hill area and this individual confessed to stealing the vehicle earlier that morning. This information was given to Patrolman First Class J.A. Jones of the Oak Hill Police Department and charges are expected to be filed against the suspect no later than tomorrow.
“The Deputies and Oak Hill Police Officer who investigated this incident did an excellent job,” said Sheriff Mike Fridley. “This incident would not have been resolved so quickly, however, had it not been for the tip leading officers to the location of this vehicle and the outstanding job of tracking by Bloodhound Pappy. It is directly as a result of Pappy’s keen nose that we were able to identify a suspect in this case.” “This is a great example of teamwork,” added Oak Hill Police Chief Mike Whisman. “We are grateful to the Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this investigation.”
