State wrestling tournament to stay in Huntington

WOAY – The WVSSAC announced Wednesday that the state high school wrestling tournament will stay in Huntington for the next four years.

The organization agreed to a four-year contract that would see the tournament stay at Mountain Health Arena through the 2023-24 school year. The city, Huntington High School, and Cabell County Schools would all be designated co-hosts.

In a statement, WVSSAC Executive Director Bernie Dolan said, “We sincerely thank Huntington High School, Cabell County Schools and the city of Huntington for their years of support and assistance with the event. We are excited and look forward to begin planning for the 2021 tournament.”

Greenbrier West is the two-time defending Class A team state champion, with then-junior Noah Brown winning the 220 individual title in February. Five area grapplers were also state finalists in their respective weight classes.

The 2021 tournament is scheduled for March 4-6.
