"Start Your Traditions" At The West Virginia State Fair This Year

Going to the state fair is something that many people look forward to every year. It’s a tradition you can say. That’s why this year, West Virginia’s State Fair is not only inviting the usual fair-goers, but everyone, especially those who have never been here, to join in on this tradition.

The 10-day event in Lewisburg will begin on Thursday, August 10th, and continue through Saturday, August 19th, and like every year, the fair will be following a theme.

Kelly Collins, C.E.O. of the State Fair of West Virginia, “This year is ‘Start Your Traditions’. We really want to encourage people to come out and start a new tradition, or continue a tradition with your family and your friends. It’s good, family-fun entertainment.”

Tradition is what brings many people back to the West Virginia Fairgrounds every year; but mixed in with the delicious food, carnival rides and entertainment, there’s one thing that separates it from every other state fair.

“The State Fair of West Virginia is all about state pride and showcasing what’s great about West Virginia. Everything from the live stock show, to the quilts that hang in the West Virginia building, it’s a great representation of West Virginia. It has changed so much, but has stayed true to one thing: we’re all about the agriculture and family-fun entertainment,” said Collins.

Thousands of visitors come out to see the different animal showcases – which have been staples of the fair for decades!

Autumn Radford, who is showcasing her livestock said, “I’ve showed sheep for three years and pigs for six years. I mean my brother did it since he was little. It’s just a family tradition kind of thing.”

The traditions will continue as the gates open in less than 24 hours!
