Southern Appalachian Labor School hosting MLK day celebration and community service project on January 20

Oak Hill, WV (WOAY)—In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Southern Appalachian Labor School (SALS) will hold a public celebration of life event on Monday, January 20. 

The ceremony will begin with an introduction by Reverend Charles Blackman and live music performed by singers from the First Baptist Church of Harlem Heights’ choir.   

Barbara and Tom Painter will recite King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. 

There will also be a reading to honor those in the SALS family who have passed away over the years.   

The public is welcome to attend and there will be refreshments available.  

The ceremony will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the SALS historic Oak Hill School at 140 School Street.  

Following the event, SALS will complete a local community service project as a tribute to Dr. King for making a difference in the lives of those in need.
