Southbound lanes on Interstate 77 closed due to vehicle fire

UPDATE (11:19 AM, May 6, 2020) – Dispatchers tell WOAY the scene has been cleared and both lanes have re-opened. There were no injuries reported.

MERCER COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – Both southbound lanes on Interstate 77 have been closed near mile marker 12 due to a tractor-trailer fire.

Mercer County dispatchers tell WOAY that a call first came in around 9:15 AM Wednesday regarding a vehicle incident around mile marker 12, just past the Athens exit. The West Virginia State Police Turnpike detachment and East River Volunteer Fire Department are among the first responder crews on the scene.
