The snow-covered roads will be slippery through Friday morning, but we have a change in precipitation type on the horizon in a few spots.
A few important pieces of the forecast to note for Friday:
- Between daybreak and 12:30 p.m., besides Pocahontas and western Greenbrier County, there will be a lull in the snow everywhere else and maybe a ray or two of sun. The winds will start to increase to 10 mph and the snow will begin to fall off the trees. A bit of melting and compaction of the existing snowpack will occur (don’t think it will just magically disappear though). Most roads will become wet.
- Between 3-5 p.m., the wind increases to 15 mph with gusts to 26 mph. More snow will fall off the trees and isolated wind damage/power outages will begin. Snow showers will commence with a light accumulation on top of the existing snowpack. Most roads will stay wet.
- Between 6-11 p.m., winds will be strongest with sustained winds at 15-18 mph and gusts to 26 mph. Isolated wind damage/power outages above 2,000 feet. Rain will mix with snow below 2,500 feet and more compaction of the existing snowpack will occur. Most roads will stay wet, except above 3,000 feet where snow-covered roads will linger the entire day. Above 2,500 feet, another 1.5 inches of snow will accumulate.
