SMITHERS, WV (WOAY) – U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) announced today that the City of Smithers Police Department has received a federal grant to buy new vehicles.
The department will receive $50,000 to buy two new vehicles, thanks to a grant from the U.S. Agriculture Department’s Rural Development grant program.
The City of Smithers currently has four police vehicles. Two of these vehicles have high mileage and are often out of operation due to mechanical failures.
“Thanks to this grant, the Smithers Police Department will be able to buy new vehicles to help them continue to serve and protect the city and its residents. I thank all of our officers for their commitment to our communities and congratulate the department on this grant,” Rep. Jenkins said.
