Smithers man pleads guilty to hitting wife in gut, killing her

FAYETTE CO., WV (NEWS RELEASE) – Prosecuting Attorney, Larry E. Harrah, II announces that Andrew W. Proctor entered a guilty plea to voluntary manslaughter, a felony, today in Fayette County Circuit Court. Sentencing is scheduled for September 1, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Proctor faces a prison term of three (3) to fifteen (15) years.

On August 28, 2016, EMS was dispatched to Howard Street in Smithers after a report that the victim, Crystal Proctor, age 42, was unconscious and unresponsive.   Law enforcement determined that the defendant struck his wife with a blunt object in her abdomen during an altercation. After the defendant struck his wife, she collapsed and later died in the hospital from internal injuries.

This crime was investigated by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department.
