Sheriff’s Department Warns of Phone Scam

FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department is warning of a phone scam.

According to Sheriff Mike Fridley, on July 10, 2018 they received several reports that someone is claiming to be a police officer.

Reportedly they are being instructed to report to the Sheriff’s Department because of two active warrants.

The caller further states that the warrants are due to the person failing to appear for jury duty.

“Sadly, phone scams are becoming a regular part of modern life,” says Sheriff Fridley. “If it sounds illegitimate, it most likely is.”

If you do receive these types of calls your asked to disregard them.
