Severe Weather Likely Wednesday

BECKLEY– Severe Weather across West Virginia is increasing for Wednesday.  The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has places half our our counties under an “Enhanced” risk and the eastern counties are under a “Slight” risk.  We don’t often see an “Enhanced” risk, which is 3 out of 5 threat level. This is pretty high for West Virginia, often we don’t see this threat this high, given the time of year.

Expect showers and storms to arrive mainly in the afternoon hours, but an isolated severe storm is possible around the mid morning hours.  Primary threats will be damaging winds, large hail, and flash flooding, and an isolated tornado or two can’t be ruled out.

Please stay weather ready and download the WOAY STORMWATCH weather app for the latest watches and warnings.

Remember if a watch is issued, it means that conditions are favorable for severe weather. You need to have a plan of action.  If a warning is issued that means severe weather is happening and action should be taken immediately
