Senator Shelley Moore Capito to introduce package on police reform

WASHINGTON D.C. (WOAY) – Senator Shelley Moore Capito is part of a small team of republican senators planning to introduce a package into Congress that addresses police reform.

The package is designed to provide training for police officers that focuses on de-escalation. According to Capito, the package meets the need for having a strong police force as well as for civil rights protections.

“I think what people need to realize is we can have a strong police force and strong civil rights protections all at the same time, and I think that’s what the expectation of the general public is. I am personally very much opposed to any kind of ‘defund the police. I think we need to have more resources so that our police are properly trained and can execute their job in the best way possible,” Capito said.

The package will likely be introduced to Congress sometime in the next few days.
