WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): This morning is much milder than the previous, making for a more comfortable commute. However, you will want to bring a rain jacket or umbrella for later this afternoon. Scattered showers and storms will pop in and out of the area this afternoon and evening. These will be light with rainfall being between a quarter and a half of an inch at most. The thunderstorms will also be on the weaker side, but still be cautious and stay indoor if you hear thunder this afternoon.
After these storms pass by, conditions will stay warm and dry for the rest of the week. There is a very slim chance of a shower or two dropping into Nicholas or Pocahontas county on Thursday, but most of the activity will stay in the northern half of the state. While it will be beautiful, the drought development and fire risks will continue at the end of this work week. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the details:
This weekend will be a return to more active weather. The next cold front will start to pass through Saturday afternoon, bringing widespread showers and storms into the region for the majority of the weekend. There will be a decent amount of moisture to work with during the weekend, so rainfall totals should be between a half of an inch and an inch. A few spots could receive more depending on repeated thunderstorm activity in one spot. While a few storms could be strong, we are not anticipating a strong severe weather risk for our region at this time. We are keeping an eye on this system for any changing trends.
The widespread activity continue until early Sunday morning, but showers will stick around in the region until Sunday afternoon. These will be more scattered, eventually dissipating and giving us a brief break from the rain. Despite the cold front passing through, temperatures will not dip all too much. Sunday afternoon will still be in the low 70s for most of the region.

Despite the break Sunday afternoon, the rain will not be away for long. Starting on Monday afternoon, another round of showers and storms will pass through the region. Activity on Monday will be scattered around before becoming widespread early Tuesday morning. The widespread showers and storms will last through the vast majority of Tuesday before the system passes overnight. The consistent rainfall will help us with drought relief, but will not knock it out in one swoop. We’ll have to keep getting rain for the developing drought to be quelled.
