Saturday Afternoon Update: Flash Flood Potential This Weekend

Oak Hill, WV (WOAY-TV): Happy Saturday, southern West Virginia! It was an active end to the work week as the area experienced heavy showers and even some rumbles of thunder Friday evening. As advertised for the last few days, this pattern is going to continue into this weekend as a stalled low pressure system lingers across the area.

Here’s a breakdown on what to expect this weekend:

Training of storms were noted last evening, meaning repeated areas of rain moving over the same region in a short time span. Unfortunately, those same neighborhoods impacted last night are dealing with the intense showers out there again this evening…

With that being said, the Weather Prediction has highlighted our whole viewing area under a LEVEL 2 (SLIGHT RISK) for Flash flooding today…

A level 2 threat means scattered flash flooding will be possible. Urban areas and streams will be impacted the most. Remember to turn around if you see any standing water on the roadways. The National Weather Service opted to place the area under a Flood Watch through 2 AM Sunday…

Sunday will feature more afternoon showers in the forecast. However, once this system passes, calmer conditions return for the beginning of next week with a refreshing spell of cooler air. Day time highs could drop into the 60s and nighttime lows in the 40s by the middle part of next week!
