Roads to Prosperity Projects to Halt Through Thanksgiving Travel

CHARLESTON, WV (WOAY) – The West Virginia Department of Transportation reminds travelers to stay alert and drive with caution during the busy travel season.

While contractors have been asked to stop work, where possible, workers may be on site in some construction zones. Long-term lane closures will also remain in place on some construction projects for motorists’ safety. Here is a list of projects for travelers to be aware of:

I-64 Milton to US 35: The contra-flow lane will continue on the westbound side of the Teays Valley to Hurricane section, however, work will halt. The speed limit continues to be reduced to 55 mph from US 35 to Hurricane and will be enforced through the travel season.

I-77 Princeton to Bluefield: Northbound traffic will be unaffected. While southbound work is wrapping up, the contractor will continue to have a few hundred feet of barrier wall before exit 9 (Princeton) which will force those in the slow lane to exit. Travelers are encouraged to stay in the fast lane where both lanes will open just beyond the barrier wall. Should you have to exit, please follow the alternate route (460 West to 52 South) back to I-77, where you will re-enter at Exit 1. Work zone speed limit will remain 55 mph and be enforced throughout the winter season.
I-79 MM 155 to PA State Line: Holiday travel will be clear but paving will start, northbound and southbound beginning November 26 and last through December 1.

For the latest construction activity and statewide traveler information, go to Travelers can also dial 511 from any phone but are encouraged to Know Before You Go! Drivers should never tweet, text or talk on a cell phone while behind the wheel.
