Richwood Police Welcome Newest Member

RICHWOOD– After going through a devastating flood last summer and working through the recovery efforts, Richwood Mayor Bob Henry Baber said he is thankful for a “warm and fuzzy” story.

Literally.

According to the Register Herald, last week, the Richwood Police Department welcomed its newest member of the team — Monster, an 18 month-old black German Shepherd puppy. Baber and Sgt. Patrick Coumbes brought Monster to the Capitol Tuesday to showcase the department’s newest member.

Coumbes noted he didn’t pick the name, saying Monster was a shelter dog in Louisiana for about three months before a group called Universal K9 trained him to be a narcotics dog.

The group specializes in training for bomb, drug and protection dogs. It started out as a for-profit company in 2010 and in 2012 started saving dogs, training them and donating them to law enforcement agencies nationwide.
