PRINCETON, WV (WOAY) – The Mercer County Humane Society is asking for assistance from the public in helping locate the person(s) responsible for the violent abuse of two adult dogs on Memorial Day weekend.
One dog, Lexi, was severely injured but she did survive the brutal attack. The other dog, another female, was deceased when discovered by Mercer County animal advocate Brandon Riffe. The deceased dog was confirmed to have been dragged, stabbed and partially skinned by a necropsy report performed at VA Tech.
The Mercer County Humane Society is committed to bringing justice for the suffering of these innocent animals. The 24hour tipline is 304-460-8626. MCHS president Kim Bay encourages the public to please understand this line is not manned and does not provide details about this case. This voice mail is to gather information on identifying the perpetrators of this crime. While your identity will not be released or made public, it is necessary that you give your name and a contact number so your tip can be fully investigated and validated. Currently there is a $2500 reward being offered by the Mercer County Humane Society.
The Mercer County Sheriff’s department will also receive tips from the public at 304-487-8364 during regular business hours.
These atrocious acts were violent and savage in their nature. Both of these dogs suffered acute physical pain. The survivor, Lexi, is currently struggling to regain her mental well-being and sense of safety. As a rational, responsible community it is prudent that we stand together and make it known these acts of intense cruelty are intolerable and unacceptable.
