Rep. Jenkins will watch a movie tonight with President Trump

WASHINGTON (NEWS RELEASE)  U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) has been invited by President Trump to the White House tonight.

Rep. Jenkins plans to speak with the president about the importance of funding our military while joining him for a screening of the new film 12 Strong, which tells the story of the first Special Forces team deployed to Afghanistan after Sept. 11.

The visit will come just after the U.S. House of Representatives votes for a government funding bill that includes vital full-year funding for the Defense Department, as well as a 2.4 percent pay raise for our troops. Current funding for the government runs until 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8.

“I appreciate the invitation from President Trump to spend time with him at the White House tonight. As the father of a United States Marine, ensuring our military has the full funding and resources they need to keep our nation safe is one of my top priorities. Our military readiness has suffered under budget cuts and temporary spending bills, an issue President Trump has repeatedly raised. I’ll be speaking with him about the importance of getting the Senate to pass this critical legislation to fund our military and prevent a government shutdown on Thursday,” Rep. Jenkins said.
