Record Dry Month Ends With No Rain; Record Heat On The Horizon

Temperatures are only getting warmer (hotter) from now until Halloween and rainfall will be scarce.

This will be a record-breaking week for hot and dry weather.

SHORT-TERM: Temperatures will rebound into the 70s through midweek and we will reach a record high Wednesday afternoon and possibly Thursday. A patch or two of fog is likely in the early morning. The brush fire risk will be elevated due to the drought, low humidity, warm temperatures and leaf litter.

LONG-TERM: A dissipating cold front will push through with a few showers Friday morning and then the sky will clear and the wind will be brisk out of the Northwest. HOWEVER, temperatures will rise into the 60s and there will be no rain for high school football games in the evening. Warm 70s then return by Monday.

DROUGHT UPDATE: We will likely see an expansion of the severe drought into Oak Hill and Fayetteville (hand-drawn northern yellow circle) and moderate drought (hand-drawn southern yellow circle) into our southern coalfields when the drought map updates Thursday.
