WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Wednesday evening’s storms produced a historical tornado in Pocahontas County.
Since records began in 1875, no tornadoes have been confirmed in Pocahontas County until tonight. A tornado has been confirmed near Hillsboro from footage received to the National Weather Service in Charleston. The weather service will either send a survey team to the area where the tornado touched down or use drone footage to confirm the details such as the path length, width and rating on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.
Since records began in 1875, only ten tornadoes have been confirmed in the Charleston National Weather Service jurisdiction.
Tonight’s tornado resulted from weak shear ahead of a cold front that produced enough rotation for a tornado to touch down on the leading edge of heavy rain.
