Raleigh County woman arrested on child abuse charges

Lester, WV (WOAY)-Sheriff Frank Priddy is providing an update on a disturbing child abuse case out of Raleigh County.

On June 19, Raleigh County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the Lester area after receiving a report of child abuse.

Deputies S. Lilly and J. Eller responded to the scene and, through their investigation, determined that 41-year-old Rebecca Bailey allegedly pinned down her 5-year-old daughter and forcibly pulled out two of her bottom front teeth.

Witnesses say Bailey was shouting that the child “had a demon in her” while holding a cross.

A family member, awakened by the commotion, quickly intervened and stayed with the child until the authorities arrived.

Bailey was arrested and charged with child abuse resulting in injury.

Bailey is currently in Southern Regional Jail on a $50,000 cash bail.

CPS and EMS were called in to make sure the child received medical attention and was released into the care of a responsible family member.

Sheriff Priddy and Chief Deputy Frankie Shelton are thanking that brave family member, along with deputies Lilly and Eler, for their quick action and dedication to protecting children.
