FAIRDALE, WV (WOAY) – Raleigh County saw quite a bit of storm damage overnight, and it seems like one trailer park in Fairdale saw the worst of it.
Crystal Freeman was at home watching TV when the storm began shaking her trailer and parts from other trailers began crashing onto her home, even shattering a window.
“I thought I was going to die. I was praying. I was crying. I was screaming, because I just wanted it to stop,” Freeman said.
Although the strong winds and rain eventually did stop, the storm didn’t come through without leaving a significant trail, littering her yard and others with debris.
“My house felt like a roller coaster, the way it is shaking. We’re thinking maybe the shed fell over,” Freeman said. “We come out. The roof from this trailer is blown over. My yard is nothing but trash, and it’s blowing over to my grandmother’s house.”
While she seemed to have gotten the worst of it in the park, other trailers also had missing parts or downed trees, like her brother, Harry Conn, who lives just across the street.
“It looked like a small tornado came through here and just destroyed everything,” he said. “I mean, it’s kinda scary.”
For those with exposed damage, like Freeman, it is a race against the clock as more weather could be on its way.
“I have to go to the store. I have to get stuff to fix my windows, because now there’s snow coming, they’re saying, so now I have to make sure my house is warm enough for my animals and me before I start losing everything,” Freeman said. “I catch a break where I’m finally able to pay my bills up and then now I’ve got to pay money to go fix it.”
