Raleigh County Schools votes to discontinue School-Based Probation Officer position

RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – Raleigh County Schools decided Tuesday to discontinue funding for the School-Based Probation Officer position.

The position has been used by the schools for the last six years and upon an evaluation was found not to be needed. The position was removed through the school board’s Truancy Diversion program and was approved by the school board on Tuesday.

“The position has been there for six years and an evaluation of it recently, we’ve determined that the funding could probably be used elsewhere especially during the COVID-19 crisis here within our truancy diversion,” said Superintendent of Raleigh County Schools David Price. “So we’ve discontinued funding for the lack of need for that position at this time.”

The school board is determining what to use these funds for in the future.
