Raleigh County Prevention Coalition launches new Blessing Box Project

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – Through a partnership with several community businesses and organizations and with the help of Coalition membership and volunteers, Raleigh County Prevention Coalition will purchase and install several Blessing Boxes throughout Raleigh County.

These boxes are filled with basic need items including non-perishable food, personal hygiene products, seasonal needs and important community resource information and the motto is: “Take what you need, Give what you can.”

Through the generosity of volunteers from several Raleigh County organizations and businesses, we will work to keep these boxes stocked.

The first Blessing Box sponsored by Beckley Pride and located on 3rd Avenue in Uptown Beckley will be dedicated on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at 9am. “Beckley Pride is proud to sponsor the first blessing box installed within the city of Beckley through the Raleigh County Prevention Coalition. It is a wonderful way we can give back to our community. Beckley Pride would like everyone to know we are more than just an organization that hosts one event a year. We’re here to help,” said Christina Baisden – Beckley Pride.

Other blessing boxes will be installed throughout Raleigh County sponsored by Women’s Resource Center, FMRS staff, Good Life Consignment, Mountain State Centers for Independent Living consumers, City Slickers, the United Way of Southern WV, New River Community and Technical College, and New River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship/Computer Chic. And the list is still growing. We are looking for sponsors for 3 more boxes to be located at Raleigh County Community Action, Stratton Elementary and Mabscot Elementary. “This is a great way for our community to connect with each other, give to each other, provide important resource information and show compassion for our neighbors,” said Dee Sizemore, president of the Raleigh County Prevention Coalition.
