BEAVER, WV (WOAY) – One man is in jail after threatening to kill a woman and firing shots at her.
According to a criminal complaint, James Dean Prater, brandished a handgun and advised a female victim that he was going to kill her. As the woman started to run away, Prater fired a round at the victim striking the door. The woman was able to flee the scene.
Raleigh County Deputies located Prater, a handgun, and methamphetamine. The defendant admitted to firing the round and advised that he was also a drug addicted and used daily.
The two bags of meth weighed approximately 3 grams with a street value of 600 dollars.
Prater is charged with attempted first degree murder, wanton endangerment, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of a deadly weapon, and possession of a controlled substance. He is being held in the Southern Regional Jail under a 200,000 dollar bond.
