Raleigh County Man Arrested Facing 14 Charges After Stealing Vehicle, Causing Damage

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – A wanted Raleigh County man with ten active warrants is arrested for stealing a vehicle from C. Adam Toney Tire, backed the truck into the building and busting glass.

On November 2, 2018, Ptl. Wickline and Cpl. Deems responded to a report of a stolen vehicle from C. Adam Toney Tire located at 1742 Harper Road in Beckley. Prior to the officer’s arrival, dispatchers advised that the vehicle’s owner had jumped into the back of the vehicle as it was being stolen and was able to talk the suspect, Dakota Arehart into pulling over at Campestre Mexican Restaurant on Harper Road. The victim restrained Arehart until officers arrived.

The victim advised that he was loading tires into the bed of his vehicle when Arehart jumped into the cab of the truck and backed the vehicle into the building causing approximately $1500.00 damage to the business as he was trying to flee. The victim jumped into the bed of the truck and after making several attempts to get into the cab by busting the back glass, Arehart pulled over where the victim was able to restrain him.

Officer arrived on scene and took Arehart into custody. A criminal history check revealed Arehart had ten active warrants spanning Raleigh County and Boone County, West Virginia. Ptl. Wickline charged Arehart with Grand Larceny, Destruction of Property and Driving with a suspended license.

After being fingerprinted at the Police Department, Arehart fled from officers but he was quickly apprehended without making it out of the building.  Arehart was transported to the Southern Regional Jail pending arraignment.

Dakota Eugene Arehart, 22, from Naoma is facing the following 14 charges:

1. Grand Larceny,
2. Destruction of Property,
3. Driving while license suspended,
4. Battery on a government employee,
5. Strangulation,
6. Nighttime Burglary,
7. Petit Larceny,
8. Trespassing,
9. Battery on a government employee,
10. Assault on a government employee,
11. Obstructing an officer,
12. Making false statements,
13. Fleeing an officer,
14. Escape from custody.
