Independence Day Themed Race Draws Runners to Fayetteville

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): This year marked the inaugural event of the Star Spangled Races in Fayetteville and it was a success.

“We’re here this morning with a race by Active Southern West Virginia Races. We’re really excited to kick off the inaugural races at Wolf Creek trails. This race helps support our kids. So, every time we can host race have a good turnout, we’re able to turn that around and have free elementary school run clubs,” said Melanie Seiler, Race Director.

“We are running on the beautiful Wolf Creek trails. It has many challenging rolling hills, but it’s gonna be a great time out here; that’s going to help support our organization,” said Brandon Mehlinger, Assistant Race Director.

On the 3.1 mile course, runners went uphill for a grand total of 339 feet. And on the 15K course, there was a total elevation gain of just over a thousand feet.

Seventy-eight runners cross the finish line at Bridge Brew Works and there was a great award ceremony to boot. Our Chief Meteorologist Chad Merrill placed second in his age group. You can click here to see the upcoming signature events hosted by Active Southern in West Virginia.
